Capturing Life with Andree Hudson

On Friday, September 6th, 2019, Canyon Road Contemporary Art, 622 Canyon Road in Santa Fe, will present a show featuring the powerful, lively paintings of Andrée Hudson. The opening reception will take place from 5pm-7pm.

Andree’s highly expressive paintings use contrasting light and dark colors to explore the vividness of movement and light as they combine to create the feeling of life. Her large, dramatic brush strokes convey this motion; her subjects feel as if they live and move among us, touching the viewer’s soul as if with a sudden breath of life.

Andree studied formally at the Maryland institute College of Art, receiving her BFA in illustration and Visual Communication. Early in her career, medical professionals took notice of her talent for capturing skeletal and muscular form and contacted her for illustrations in various medical publications and textbooks. But Andree’s true passion is letting the beauty of creation speak for itself, unfettered by an abundance of detail, through her paintings of living, moving form. It is in fact the very lack of precise detail which gives her subjects souls.

Each subject, whether child, adult, animal, or landscape, has been caught living simply in a moment of time; the painting is an invitation to join that subject in a part of life’s journey. With her gift to portray life in paintings, Andree entreats each of us to join her subjects in their captured moments, to come away having related intimately to each piece.
