Coachella - Mark Bowles

Painting Acrylic on Canvas
48 x 48 in

I spend winters in the Coachella Valley in my studio. So this comes from direct plein aire study of the desert. The painting suggests spring time light. The top bar of color on the canvas is a reference to the evolution of sky color throughout the day from a deep red heat of mid-day to a yellow as the sun sets. The mountain range and yellow sky suggest wind, and the green foreground represents new growth. Coachella valley is a major agricultural center for California.
